CBGB closed in 2006. The room ended. The mythology did not.
At 315 Bowery, Patti Smith, the Ramones, Blondie, Talking Heads and generations of punk and hardcore bands turned a very small club into a very large reference point.
In 2026, the CBGB Festival returns at Under the K Bridge in Brooklyn, with Patti Smith, Interpol, Sex Pistols featuring Frank Carter, Bikini Kill, Mannequin Pussy and others.
The contrast matters: a tiny room remembered inside an open-air landscape of concrete, steel and infrastructure.
What survives when a culture loses its room? Songs. Stories. Clothes that leave their original context and return decades later.
Punk's anti-fashion becomes fashion almost immediately. The useful rule is simpler:
Wear something you are prepared to live in.
The floor is concrete. The night is long. The music is the point.
